A Joint Venture of

CANBERRA CLASSICAL GUITAR SOCIETY

and

WESLEY MUSIC FOUNDATION

Canberra Classical Guitar Society and the Wesley Music Foundation are collaborating to raise funds for a project to commission two works for four-part guitar orchestra by two young aspiring composers in the Canberra region and to increase the repertoire of music for guitar orchestra and specifically for the Canberra Classical Guitar Society orchestra.

It is planned to pay $1,500 for each of two works and therefore the target for fund raising is $3,000. The actual commitment to commission the works is dependent on the fund-raising success.

The process for the project envisages the commencement of fundraising in May 2010, the seeking of expressions of interest in September, a selection process in October and the awarding of commissions in November.  It is planned to receive the completed commissions by May 2011 and to have public performances of the works later in the year.

This project will further the aims of the Guitar Society and the Wesley Music Foundation which include music promotion and education and, in the case of this project, recognising Canberra region talent and supporting the Society’s community-based guitar orchestra.

Anyone interested in supporting this innovative project may make pledges or non-tax deductible donations to the Society or make tax deductible donations of $2 or more through the Public Fund of the Wesley Music Foundation.

Information and brochures on the project together with forms for donations or pledges are available from the Society on 0403 640 669 or email info@classicalguitarcanberra.org.au or from the Wesley Music Centre on 02 6232 7248 or email wesleymc@bigpond.net.au.

Later in the year a detailed announcement will be made inviting expressions of interest from composers in the Canberra region.
